Boltrics WMS: platform overview and our guidance

What is Boltrics

Boltrics is a WMS platform built on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. It focuses specifically on 3PL companies and logistics service providers, and you see that in the functionality: client management, multi-tenant storage, per-client rate structures, and a direct link to the financial administration.

Strong points: the integration with the Microsoft stack is deep. If your organisation already runs on Dynamics or Microsoft 365, you are in the same ecosystem. Multi-tenant works well, and the Dutch market is proven ground for Boltrics.

Our role in a Boltrics project

We do not implement Boltrics ourselves. Boltrics does (or an authorised partner). What we do is stand next to you during that project.

Representing your interest. We translate your processes into requirements, test what is delivered and train your people so they understand the system.

Translator between warehouse floor and consultant. No surprises at go-live because an operator meant something the consultant never heard.

Independent second opinion. Questions like “does this really have to be built that way?” or “can this be done with the standard?” are things we can test without political conflict.

The knowledge stays. After go-live we remain available, and your team is trained by us.

Read more about this role on our WMS implementation page. For optimisation of existing Boltrics environments, see WMS optimisation. For integration projects, see WMS integration.

Our experience with Boltrics

We guided Boltrics implementations and optimisations at 3PL and logistics service providers, mainly in the mid-market. Projects ranged from greenfield implementations to optimisations of existing environments that were not delivering what they should.

The benefit of our approach: we know the Boltrics platform and the Dynamics layer underneath. In practice that means: less “ask the implementation partner” and more direct answers. That dual knowledge saves time and frustration, especially when a technical question touches both the WMS and the finance module.

Typical projects

Greenfield implementation typically takes 4-6 months. The financial links are always the most time-consuming step. Do not underestimate them. The earlier the finance consultant joins, the smoother the project.

Migration from a legacy WMS needs data mapping, a parallel run and training. Depending on the quality of the old data and the complexity of the processes: usually 3-5 months.

Pick process optimisation: often a shorter project of 4-8 weeks. We analyse the current pick routes, look at location strategy and ABC layout, and configure the improved flow together.

Integrations with client portals: that is almost always a separate project. No fixed timeline, because it depends on API maturity on both sides.

Migrating to Boltrics

A migration is more than moving data. It is also a process choice: what stays the same, what changes, and who notices?

We always run migrations in the same order. First data mapping: inventory, clients, orders, pricing agreements. Then a parallel run of at least two weeks, so deviations surface before the old system goes offline. Then training for warehouse operators, not as an afterthought, but as a full part of the project. Operators who understand the system use it well. Operators who got a short demo find workarounds that are not in the manual.

And a communication plan for 3PL clients. When you switch, things change on their side too, even if small. Whoever communicates that well prevents surprises.

Common mistakes

Building too much client-specific work into standard Boltrics. Every customisation outside the standard is something you have to test again at every upgrade. We always ask: is this really necessary, or is this an assumption? Often the standard is good enough.

Planning the financial integration only in the last sprint. In almost every Boltrics project, the financial link is the first thing that returns as a bottleneck. Start early, finish earlier.

Underestimating training. The technical workings of the system are one thing. User acceptance matters just as much. A system that is ten percent slower in use than the old one will not be used, no matter how good the configuration.

How we work

We always start on the warehouse floor. Only when we understand how the work really flows do we advise on how the system supports it.

Read more about our approach on our approach page. Our rate is €110 per hour, transparent and without hidden costs.

FAQ

What does a Boltrics implementation cost? Depends on scope: usually tens of thousands of euros, including licence cost of the underlying Dynamics platform. We do not give an indicative price without asking first. Only then a proposal.

How long does it take? A greenfield implementation: 4-6 months. A migration: 3-5 months. Optimisation projects: 4-8 weeks.

Corax or Boltrics: which fits us? That depends on your existing software stack, your financial processes and your need for custom work. Read Corax WMS consultant for a comparison of the two platforms.

“Boltrics sits close to the Microsoft ecosystem. If your organisation already runs there, that helps. If you are not on Microsoft, weigh that in your choice.”
